This session will cover the main areas of VAT and property issues as applicable to the charity sector including:

  • Option to Tax
  • Anti-avoidance legislation around Option To Tax
  • Relevant Residential and Relevant Charitable Purpose
  • VAT on construction, renovation and repair

The session will look at the law and discuss the details of how HMRC put the law into practice.


Who Should Attend

This event is aimed at the Chief Executives and senior finance personnel of the organisations and will commence at 4pm.

This session will be taken by my colleague Michael McNeill.

Michael is a manager in the VAT team in Belfast.  Michael studied law at Queens and he is a Chartered Tax Adviser.

Michael has been in practice for some 6 years and advises all sectors of business and commerce in Northern Ireland and beyond.  He advises a cross section of the third sector in Northern Ireland from providing VAT advice for government and quasi-governmental organisations to assisting many of charitable organisations in Northern Ireland on all aspects of their VAT affairs with particular focus on property VAT issues.
