Register of Charities and Failed Compliance Checks - Lessons Learnt

Wednesday, November 27, 2019 - 17:30 to 19:00
TBC, Belfast

The register of charities is an accessible directory of organisations in Northern Ireland considered by law to be charities. At present there are over 6,000 charities on the Northern Ireland register, with more being added as registration applications are received and assessed by the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland. Each listing includes the charity’s name, contact details, charitable purposes, finances, beneficiaries and charity trustees.

The register also includes the accounts and reports of charities, as submitted under the annual reporting programme. However, there have been a number of cases whereby charities are failing to supply the correct information and are subsequently deemed as a failed compliance check.  In this session, the Commission will walk charity trustees through the process involved and provide lessons learnt from other charities to ensure the information supplied is both correct and in the right format.
