National Lottery project helps VCSE sector plan for future

The National Lottery Community Fund has today announced a major investment to support VCSE leaders across NI to improve their financial skills and plan for the future.

Reacting to the news of a £40 million Hardship Fund from the Department for the Economy, Nora Smith, CEO of CO3 said:

“Whilst we welcome news of a Hardship Fund, the devil will be in the detail in terms of whether or not our members can access this. To date most of them have not been able to access any financial relief despite the fact that our sector employs around 45,000 people and contributes £1.5billion to the local economy.

Northern Ireland’s charities face funding crisis

Northern Ireland’s charities and social enterprises have appealed to government and the general public to help them survive with many facing financial meltdown because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Traditional fund-raising has dried up with the closure of charity shops, childcare centres and cafes and the enforced cancellation of sponsored events from marathons to coffee mornings.

Leaders and organisations from across Northern Ireland’s charity and voluntary sector have been recognised for their excellence and success at this year’s CO3 Leadership Awards, delivered in partnership with Ecclesiastical Insurance.

Taking place virtually after they were postponed earlier in the year in March, the awards highlight the talent, innovation and success across Northern Ireland’s charities, voluntary organisations, and social enterprises.
